How to Create a Facebook Business Page, Step by Step

The steps as Facebook's own Help Center describes them today, the official photo sizes (not the ones AI tools keep repeating) and the settings that make a Page actually sell.

Here's how to create a Facebook business page: sign in with your personal profile and click Pages, then Create Page. Choose Public Page and fill in the name, category, details, photos and action button. It takes about 15 minutes. What decides whether the Page sells is what you put inside it.

In the US, "how to create a facebook business page" gets about 14,800 searches a month (DataForSEO, October 2026). Much of what ranks is video tutorials with menus that have since moved. Below are the steps as Facebook's Help Center describes them today, checked in late October 2026, plus the official photo sizes.

A Page is the foundation for almost everything you'll do with Meta on social media: no Page, no ads and no Meta Business Suite.

Facebook page vs profile: what your business needs

The difference between a Facebook page vs profile is simple: the profile is you as a person, and the Page belongs to your business.

A Facebook business page is the public home of a company, brand, organization or public figure on Facebook. People follow it without being friends, and it comes with insights, an action button, messaging and ads. One or more personal profiles manage it, and none of them appear on it.

What it isn't: a personal profile with your company's name. Facebook's terms ask for one profile per person under your real name, and a fake business profile can be shut down with all your contacts inside.

Can you create a Facebook business page without a personal account?

No. You need a personal profile to create and manage the Page, but nobody sees it: followers only see the Page. If mixing the two worries you, the fix isn't a fake profile. Give trusted people access to the Page and run the day to day from Meta Business Suite.

Facebook page vs group: which one should your business use?

Use a Facebook Page when you want to be found and to run ads, and a group when you want a community of people who already buy from you. Most small businesses should build the Page first.

Meta's Help Center compares the formats. Pages are public, and they are the only one of profiles, Pages and groups that supports advertising and Page Insights. Groups can be public or private, have no advertising option and come with their own Group Insights. You can also link a group to your Page.

A gym in Austin, as an example, would use the Page for class schedules, offers and ads, and open a private group for members doing a 30-day challenge. The group adds work: someone has to approve members and answer every day. If nobody has that time, skip the group.

How to create a Facebook page step by step

Learning how to create a Facebook page on a computer takes seven steps, and Facebook's own Help Center lays them out.

  1. Go to Pages and click Create Page

With your profile open, find Pages in the left column and click Create Page.

  2. Choose Public Page and click Get Started

Select Public Page, click Next, then Get Started.

  3. Add the name and category

The name is your business name exactly as customers know it. The category is the most specific one you can find: "Physical Therapist" beats "Health."

  4. Write the bio and create the Page

The bio is optional, but use it: one line on what you do and where. Click Create Page.

  5. Fill in contact info, location and hours

Phone, website, email, address and hours, exactly as they appear on your website and Google.

  6. Upload photos and pick the action button

Profile picture, cover photo and the button everyone will see: send message, call, book.

  7. Connect WhatsApp, invite and finish

Connect WhatsApp or click Skip, invite friends if you like, choose your notifications and click Done.

That's the same process described in the Facebook Help Center article on creating a Page, which we checked in late October 2026, in English, Spanish and Portuguese. Facebook moves menus from time to time: if a label doesn't match, look for the closest option.

How do you make a Facebook page on your phone?

If you're wondering how to make a Facebook page on mobile, it's the same process inside the app: open the menu, go to Pages, tap Create and follow the same steps. Prepare the photos on a computer first, though: cropping a cover photo on a phone is the fastest way to end up with half a logo.

Facebook cover photo size and profile picture size

The minimum Facebook cover photo size is 400 × 150 pixels, and the best Facebook profile picture size for uploads is 320 × 320.

Search for Facebook cover photo size and you'll find every number imaginable. These are the ones in Facebook's official profile picture and cover photo dimensions page today.

ImageOfficial sizeDetails
Profile picture320 × 320 px for best qualityDisplays at 176 × 176 on computers and 196 × 196 on smartphones, cropped to a circle
Cover photo (minimum)400 × 150 pxSmaller images aren't accepted
Cover photo (recommended)sRGB JPG, 851 × 315 px, under 100 KBLoads fastest
Logo or textPNGFacebook recommends PNG so it stays sharp

Two details almost nobody mentions: on mobile, the profile picture covers about 40 pixels of the cover photo, and the cover crops differently on computers and phones. Keep key text in the center, away from the edges and the profile picture corner. To get every image to the exact size, use our crop image tool before uploading.

Facebook business page examples: details, action button and username

Facebook business page examples that convert have details that match the website and one action button pointing to one place.

A hair salon in Miami, for instance, would choose the "Hair Salon" category and use the same phone number and hours as its website. It would set a "Book Now" button linked to its booking system and claim a short username (@miamicutsstudio, if it's free) to print on cards. Anyone arriving from an ad knows in ten seconds what you do, where you are and how to reach you.

Which action button should you pick?

The one that leads to where you actually sell. If you close deals in chat, Send Message or WhatsApp. If you work by appointment, Book Now. If you sell online, a link to your store. And make sure the button and the site tell the same story. If you link to your website, it should have an about us page that builds trust and a contact form that works: that's where people land.

Copy-paste prompts

Write the bio for my business's Facebook Page: [type of business] in [city], for [ideal customer]. What sets us apart: [two or three things]. Give me three versions under 100 characters that say what we do and where, with no empty adjectives like "leading" or "best," and suggest the most specific Facebook category for this business.

How to add admin to Facebook page and share access safely

To add an admin to a Facebook page, open the Page settings, go to Page access and invite the person by name or email.

Facebook offers two levels. Facebook access lets someone manage the Page directly, and you can grant it with or without full control. Task access is limited to jobs like posting, replying to messages or viewing insights. Give full control only to someone you'd trust with your keys. If you work with an agency or a freelancer, task access is usually enough.

To link Instagram to a Facebook page, switch into the Page and go to Settings, Permissions and Linked accounts.

According to Facebook's Help Center, the path is: click your profile photo, then See all profiles, and pick the Page. Then click the Page's profile picture, Settings & privacy, Settings and, under Permissions, Linked accounts. Choose Instagram and click Connect account. If your Instagram is a personal account, you'll be asked to switch it to a professional account, which is public.

Once both are linked, you answer messages from both in one inbox and can run Instagram ads from your Page. And once the Page is ready, use it as the base for social selling: it's the first thing people check when your message arrives.

How to delete a Facebook business page (or unpublish it)

To delete a Facebook business page you need Facebook access with full control, and it is erased for good 14 days later. If you only want it hidden, unpublish it instead.

According to Facebook's Help Center, the path is: from the Page, Settings & privacy, Settings, Access and control, then Delete Page. You may be asked for your password. The Page is deactivated right away but not permanently deleted until 14 days pass. If you change your mind in that window, you can reactivate it, and that can only be done from a personal profile.

OptionWhat happensWhen to pick it
UnpublishThe Page disappears from public view, including for followers, and you can still edit itA seasonal business or a rebrand in progress
DeleteIt is deactivated instantly and erased for good after 14 daysA duplicate Page, one made by mistake or a closed business

Before you delete, check the linked Instagram account, any active ads and the links on your website and Google profile that point to that Page. Also watch out if you plan to delete your personal profile: per the Help Center, Pages that only you control get deleted too. Give someone you trust full control first.

Frequently asked questions about Facebook business pages

How do I verify my Facebook business account?

There are two different things people call verification. Business verification happens in Meta's business tools, in the Security Center of your business settings, where you confirm your company with official documents; it unlocks some features and helps with ad account issues. The blue badge is Meta Verified for businesses, a paid subscription with identity checks and extra support. A new local business rarely needs the badge; business verification is the one worth doing.

What is Meta Blueprint?

Meta Blueprint is Meta's training platform for its business tools. It offers free self-paced courses on Pages, Meta Business Suite, Facebook and Instagram ads and measurement, plus paid certification exams for professionals. If you manage your own Page, the free courses on setting up a Page and running your first ads are enough. The certifications make sense if you work, or want to work, at an agency or as a freelance media buyer.

How do you pick a good Facebook page name?

Use the name customers already search for: your business name, plus your city or what you do if the name alone is ambiguous, like adding Miami to a salon name. Facebook reviews Page names and rejects ones that are misleading, purely generic or that claim to be official when they aren't. Skip all caps and emojis, keep it short enough to say out loud, and make the username match it so you can print it on cards.

What is Facebook professional mode?

Professional mode is a setting you turn on in your personal Facebook profile so anyone can follow you and you get insights and creator tools, without creating a separate Page. It's built for creators and people growing an audience under their own name. For a business with its own brand, a Page is still the better choice: it keeps the company separate from your personal life and lets you give access to other people.

What is Meta Business Suite?

Meta Business Suite is Meta's free tool for managing your Facebook Page and Instagram account in one place: posting and scheduling, answering Messenger and Instagram messages, checking insights and creating ads. It runs in the browser and as a mobile app. For a small business it's the easiest way to run both platforms without jumping between apps all day, and it's where most owners end up spending their time once the Page exists.

Do I need a Facebook business page?

If your customers use Facebook or Instagram, yes: it's free, it shows up when people search your name, and you can't run Facebook or Instagram ads without one. If you sell only to companies that never touch Facebook, a basic Page with accurate details is still worth the 15 minutes, because people check it before they call. What you don't need is to post every day from day one.
