Free QR code generator: your colors, your logo, no expiration
This QR code generator instantly makes a code for your website, WhatsApp, Wi-Fi, an email or your contact card, in your colors and with your logo. Download it as PNG or SVG. It never expires.
This is a static QR code: what you type lives inside the image, with no redirect and no server. It never expires and doesn’t track scans. Test it with your phone before you print.
Design
With a logo, error correction jumps to Max (30%) so the code still scans.
A QR code is a square pattern that stores a bit of text, usually a link, that any phone camera can read. This QR code maker builds yours in seconds and downloads it as PNG or SVG. No sign-up, and your data never touches a server.
How to make a QR code in 4 steps
-
Choose what it should open
Website, text, WhatsApp, Wi-Fi, email or contact. Each type asks only for what it needs.
-
Fill in the details
The code updates with every keystroke. Paste a URL without “https://” and we add it, so phones open it as a website.
-
Make it yours
Change the code and background colors, adjust the margin and, if you want, upload your logo for the center. If the contrast gets too low, the tool tells you.
-
Download and test it
PNG for social posts and documents, SVG for print. Before anything goes to the printer, scan it with two different phones.
How to scan a QR code: iPhone, Android and what to print next to yours
“How to scan a QR code” gets about 27,100 searches a month in the US, and AI assistants field it around 11,000 times a month, according to DataForSEO (October 2026). Your customers are in that crowd, so make the first step easy:
- iPhone: open the Camera app, point it at the code and tap the link that appears. The Scan Code control in Control Center works too, according to Apple.
- Android: open the Camera app and tap the banner. On a Pixel, the camera scan suggestions setting has to be on, and Google Lens is the backup. Google says built-in scanning needs Android 9 or higher.
Next to your code, print one line that says what to do and what they’ll get: “Scan with your phone camera to see the menu.” No app to download, no sign-up.
What you can put in a QR code: links, Wi-Fi, WhatsApp and contacts
- Website: the link as is. To track visits from a flyer, add parameters with our UTM builder first.
- WhatsApp QR code: it uses WhatsApp’s official click to chat format, wa.me/ plus your number with the country code, with an optional prefilled message. Just need the link? Try the WhatsApp link generator.
- Wi-Fi: this doubles as a wifi QR code generator. It stores the network, password and security type in the WIFI:T:WPA;S:network;P:password;; format that Android and iPhone read, so guests join without typing.
- Email: opens a new email with recipient, subject and message.
- Contact: a vCard QR code generator (vCard 3.0) with name, phone, email, company, job title and website.
- Text: anything, accents and emojis included (encoded as UTF-8).
To create QR code batches for menus, flyers or business cards, just swap the content: colors and margin stay as you left them.
QR code on a business card: link or vCard?
“QR code on a business card” gets about 9,900 searches a month in the US (DataForSEO, October 2026). Decide the contents first, because they set how small the squares get. Here is our own math, using this tool’s encoder, for a code 1 inch (25 mm) wide with its 4-square border:
| Contents | Grid | One square |
|---|---|---|
| Short link, 24 characters | 25 × 25 | 0.03 in (0.77 mm) |
| Basic vCard, 172 bytes, level M | 53 × 53 | 0.016 in (0.42 mm) |
Smaller squares are harder to read on rough paper or with an older camera. On a 3.5 × 2 in card, a short link scans with room to spare. A vCard saves your contact in one tap, so keep it to name, phone and email, and test a printed proof with two phones.
Do QR codes expire? Static vs. dynamic
The codes this tool makes are static: the content lives inside the pattern itself. There’s no middleman website, so they work for as long as your link does.
| Difference | Static QR code (this one) | Dynamic QR code |
|---|---|---|
| Does it expire? | No | It can stop working if you stop paying |
| Can you change the destination? | No, you make a new one | Yes, from the service’s dashboard |
| Does it track scans? | No (add UTM to the link) | Yes |
| Price | Free | Usually paid |
That’s the catch with many “free” generators: they hand you a dynamic code that runs through their server, and it dies when the trial ends. If you searched for a free QR code generator no expiration, a static code is what you want.
QR code generator with logo and colors: what still scans
- Error correction: a QR code stores spare data so it still reads with a piece missing. Under the ISO/IEC 18004 standard, level L recovers about 7%, M 15%, Q 25% and H 30%. Add a logo and the tool switches to H on its own.
- Contrast: dark code on a light background. We warn you below 4.5:1, a safety margin we borrowed from the WCAG text contrast rule.
- Margin: keep a 4-module quiet zone around it, which is what the standard calls for. Codes jammed against a photo or the edge of the page fail more often.
- Size: the farther away people scan, the bigger it needs to be. Print a test and scan it from the real distance before you order a thousand posters.
Frequently asked questions about QR codes
Do QR codes cost money?
Making one doesn’t have to. A static QR code is just math, and any generator can draw it for free, this one included, with no sign-up and no scan limits. What costs money is the dynamic kind: services that route your code through their own server so you can edit the link or count scans, usually on a monthly plan. Stop paying and those codes can stop working. With a static code, printing is your only cost.
Do QR codes work on screenshots?
Yes. A QR code is just a pattern, so a sharp screenshot scans the same as the original, whether someone points another phone at your screen or opens the image in Google Lens. Trouble starts when the image gets mangled: heavy compression, a tiny size or a cropped margin. If you’re sharing one in a story or a chat, use the PNG at 1,024 px or more and keep the plain border around it.
Can a QR code be in color?
Yes, as long as the code stays dark and the background stays light. Scanners look for the difference in brightness, not the hue, so navy on cream works and yellow on white doesn’t. That’s why this tool checks contrast as you pick colors and warns you below 4.5:1, or when the code is lighter than the background, an inverted code many phones can’t read. Busy photos behind the code are the most common reason a branded QR code fails.
What’s the best free QR code generator?
One that gives you a static code, no sign-up and an SVG file. Static, so it never expires and doesn’t depend on a company staying in business. No sign-up, because nobody needs your email to draw a square. SVG, so your printer can scale it to a banner without pixelation. This tool does all three, and it builds the code in your browser: what you type, Wi-Fi password included, never leaves your computer.
