WhatsApp Link Generator: Create Your wa.me Link and a Website Button

Pick your country, type your number and a message, and this WhatsApp link generator gives you a link ready for your bio, website or ads. You also get the code for a floating button, no plugins needed.

A WhatsApp link is a wa.me address that opens a chat with you in one tap, without anyone having to save your number. Add a prefilled message and people only have to hit send: fewer steps, more conversations.

  1. Pick your country and type your number

Spain, the United States and Brazil come first. Spaces, dashes, parentheses or a country code are all fine: the tool converts everything to international format.

  2. Write the message people will see

Use one of the quick messages or write your own. Accents, emojis and line breaks work, and the encoding happens automatically.

  3. Copy the link and test it

“Open to test it” launches WhatsApp or WhatsApp Web. Make sure your chat opens before the link goes into your bio or an ad.

  4. Add the floating button to your site

Choose position, text and color, then copy the code. It’s HTML and CSS with no JavaScript or plugins, so you just paste it before the closing body tag.

WhatsApp’s official help page calls this feature click to chat. The recipe is short: your full number in international format, with no zeros, brackets or dashes, plus a URL-encoded message.

Link = https://wa.me/ + country code + number + ?text= + encoded message

Encoding means every space becomes %20, every comma %2C and every accented letter its code, like %C3%A9 for “é”. This wa.me link generator uses the browser’s standard encoding, so emojis and line breaks never break the link. Leave the number empty and you get https://wa.me/?text=..., which opens the contact list so people can choose who gets the message.

CountryHow people write itCorrect link
United States(201) 555-0123wa.me/12015550123
Spain600 00 00 00wa.me/34600000000
Brazil (cell)(11) 90000-0000wa.me/5511900000000
Mexico55 0000 0000wa.me/525500000000
Argentina (cell)11 0000-0000wa.me/5491100000000

Two traps the tool warns you about: Argentine cell numbers need a 9 after 54 and no 15, and Mexico no longer uses a 1 after 52.

wa.me is the short domain WhatsApp uses for click to chat links. Per WhatsApp’s help center, universal links are the preferred method. You’ll still see the older long format around the web:

FormatExample
wa.mewa.me/12015550123?text=Hi
api.whatsapp.com/sendapi.whatsapp.com/send?phone=12015550123&text=Hi

Both open the same chat. Stick with wa.me: it’s shorter and cleaner in a bio. Want a true WhatsApp short link? You have three routes:

  • A shorter message. The encoded text is what bloats the link, so “Hi, can I book?” beats a paragraph.
  • The WhatsApp Business app short link. It creates one with a code in place of your number.
  • Third-party shorteners. They work, but if the service shuts down, your bio and posters break.

WhatsApp button for website: copy-paste code

A WhatsApp chat link in your bio is great, but on your website a floating button works around the clock. Ours comes with an accessible name, a visible focus outline and reduced motion for people who ask for it. The icon color flips between white and dark on its own to meet the WCAG minimum contrast.

WhatsApp QR code: how to make one that opens your chat

The most useful WhatsApp QR code for a business comes from your own wa.me link, because that lets you choose the message each person sees. Do this:

  1. Create the link above with a different message for each spot, like “Hi, I saw your poster”.
  2. Paste it into the QR code generator and download the image.
  3. Test it with two phones and the camera app, not just WhatsApp.
  4. Print it big enough. A handy rule: scanning distance is about ten times the QR’s side, so a 1-inch code scans from about 10 inches and a 4-inch code from about 3 feet. A 1-inch QR on a shop window is decoration, not a tool.

The QR holds the link itself, so it doesn’t expire or depend on any website. If you change your number, reprint it.

WhatsApp click to chat examples for business

  • Instagram bio: a link with “Hi, I found you on Instagram” turns profile visits into chats. Want more of those visits? Read how to get more followers on Instagram.
  • Storefront or flyer: turn the link into a QR code, as in the steps above, and put it by the register.
  • Ads and emails: if the ad sends people to your site first, tag that URL with the UTM builder so you know which campaign drove the chat.

Frequently asked questions about WhatsApp links

How do I create a WhatsApp link for my number?

Use the format wa.me followed by your full number in international format: country code plus number, with no plus sign, spaces, dashes or leading zeros. A US number like (201) 555-0123 becomes wa.me/12015550123. The generator above does the cleanup for you, adds an optional prefilled message and lets you test the link before you share it anywhere.

How do I create a WhatsApp link to join a group?

Group links don’t use wa.me with a phone number: WhatsApp creates them for you. Open the group, tap its name and choose the option to invite via link. You’ll get a chat.whatsapp.com address you can copy, share or turn into a QR code. By default only admins can create it, and if it leaks you can reset it so the old one stops working.

How do I add a WhatsApp button to my website?

Create your link here, set the position, text and color of the floating button, and copy the code. Paste it into your site right before the closing body tag, or into a custom HTML block if you use WordPress, Shopify or Squarespace. It’s plain HTML and CSS, so it won’t slow your page down, and it includes a visible focus style for keyboard users.

How do I create a WhatsApp link for my business?

The same wa.me format works with any WhatsApp Business number, so just type your business number above and add a message. The WhatsApp Business app can also create a short link from its business tools, but with wa.me you control the message on every link. That lets you use a different one for your website, your bio and your print materials.

Is a WhatsApp link safe?

Yes, a genuine wa.me link is safe to click: it only opens a chat window with a number and a prefilled message, and it doesn’t give anyone access to your account or your chats. The risk comes from fake links that imitate WhatsApp and ask for your verification code, so check that the domain is wa.me or whatsapp.com and never share that code. If you publish your own link, remember it contains your number, so anyone who sees it can message you. A business number is the safer choice.
