Random Number Generator: No Repeats, Lists and a Giveaway Mode

Set a min and a max and get one random number or a whole list with no repeats. Giveaway mode gives you winners, alternates and a draw record to copy.

Shortcuts

Your number

Hit “Generate”

How each number gets picked

Your browser generates a random 53-bit integer with crypto.getRandomValues, the same cryptographic generator websites use for encryption. If that integer lands above the largest multiple of n, it’s thrown out and a new one is drawn, so no number comes up more often than another. With no repeats, each number picked leaves the pool (a partial Fisher-Yates shuffle).

number = min + (x mod n), where n = max − min + 1. Odds of each number: 1/n.

Everything runs in your browser: nothing is saved or sent to any server. The draw record is there to keep your giveaway transparent; no third party certifies it.

This random number generator gives you one number, or up to 10,000, between any min and max, with or without repeats. Running a giveaway? Switch to “Giveaway” and you get winners, alternates and a timestamped draw record, all inside your browser.

How to use this random number picker

  1. Set your range

Enter the “Min” and “Max.” Negative numbers work, and so do huge ranges, up to 9 quadrillion possible values. Typed the min higher than the max? It swaps them and tells you.

  2. Choose how many and how

In “How many numbers,” ask for 1 to 10,000. Looking for a random number generator no repeats setting? Keep “No repeats” checked so no number shows up twice, and check “Sort low to high” if you want them in order.

  3. Generate and copy

Hit “Generate” or press Enter. “Copy numbers” grabs them as a comma-separated list, ready for a spreadsheet or a text.

In a hurry? The “Dice (1-6),” “1-10,” “1-100” and “1-1,000” shortcuts pick a number instantly. That makes it a random number list generator and a quick way to pick a number in the same box.

How the RNG picks each number

Every number comes from crypto.getRandomValues, your browser’s cryptographic generator. We draw a 53-bit integer, and if it lands above the largest multiple of the range size, we toss it and draw again. That step, rejection sampling, kills modulo bias: the flaw in a lot of homemade number generator code that gives low numbers a slight edge.

We tested it with 10,000 numbers from 1 to 10: each value came up between 934 and 1,062 times, right where pure chance puts it. None of your data leaves your device or gets stored.

Random draw generator for giveaways and raffles

Open the “Giveaway” tab, name it, and set “From number” and “To number,” or paste a list into “Participants (optional, one per line)”: each name gets a number in the order you pasted it. Choose how many “Winners” and “Alternates” you want and hit “Draw winners.” Nobody can be picked twice.

The draw record lists the giveaway name, date, time and time zone, the participants, the method and the results in the order drawn. Hit “Copy record” and post it. It’s an honest log, not a certificate: no third party verifies it, so film the draw if the prize is worth real money. Want something more visual for a live? Use the spin the wheel name picker.

Random number generator 1-3, 1-4, 1-5 and 1-20: what to set

The setup never changes: min 1, whatever max you need, “How many numbers” at 1 and “Generate.” What changes is the odds of each number, which is 1 divided by the size of the range.

RangeOdds of each numberA marketing use
1 to 333.3%Decide which of three headlines to test first
1 to 425%Pick one of four ad ideas
1 to 520%Draw the posting day, Monday to Friday
1 to 205%Pick one of 20 content ideas
1 to 502%Pick a winner among 50 valid entries

For that last one, if you need alternates and a draw record, use the “Giveaway” mode above instead.

Roll a dice online: one die, two dice and the odds

Hit the “Dice (1-6)” shortcut and you get a number from 1 to 6, each face with a 1 in 6 chance (16.67%). To roll several dice, set min 1 and max 6, ask for 2, 3 or more under “How many numbers” and uncheck “No repeats,” because real dice can land on the same number twice.

With two dice, the total isn’t spread evenly: a 7 comes up in 6 of the 36 combinations (16.67%), while a 2 or a 12 comes up in just 1 (2.78%).

One marketing use is a surprise discount on a live stream. Tell viewers the die decides their coupon:

Die showsDiscountChance
1 or 25%33.3%
3 or 410%33.3%
515%16.7%
620%16.7%

The average discount is 10.8%. Run that math against your margin before you promise it, and post the terms before anyone rolls.

Random number generator 1-10, 1-100 and dice: real uses

  • Social giveaways: number the valid comments and draw. It’s the fastest way to close the giveaway we recommend in our guide on how to get more followers on Instagram.
  • Survey samples: 500 customers and you want to call 30? Draw 30 numbers from 1 to 500 with no repeats and call those.
  • Speaking order: ask for as many numbers as people, no repeats, unsorted, and you have the lineup.
  • Games and icebreakers: a random number generator 1-10 for a dare, or a dice roll when the real one went missing.
  • Manual A/B splits: use the random number generator 1-100; 1 to 50 gets version A, 51 to 100 gets version B.

If your draw has a date, build the hype with a countdown timer you can share with a link.

Frequently asked questions about this random number generator

How do you do a raffle?

Give every ticket a number in order, from 1 to the last one, and make sure each buyer knows theirs. Then open “Giveaway,” enter the range, choose how many winners and alternates you need, and hit “Draw winners.” If you have names instead of ticket numbers, paste them into “Participants” and they get numbered for you. Copy the draw record and post it along with a video of the draw. Check your state’s raffle rules first: they vary a lot from state to state.

How do I generate random numbers in Excel?

Type =RANDBETWEEN(1,100) in a cell and Excel returns a whole number from 1 to 100; drag it down for more. Two catches: it can repeat numbers, and it recalculates every time you edit the sheet, so copy and paste as values to lock the result. For a giveaway with winners and alternates and no repeats, this tool is faster and leaves you a timestamped record.

Are random number generators really random?

Most computer generators are pseudorandom: they run a formula from a starting value, which is fine for games but predictable in theory. Cryptographic generators, like the one this page uses, mix in unpredictable data from your device and are built so nobody can guess the next value. That’s the standard used for encryption keys, and it’s far more than a giveaway or a classroom pick needs.

What does RNG mean?

RNG stands for random number generator: any system that produces numbers by chance, from a pair of dice to the code that decides loot drops in a video game. Gamers use “RNG” as shorthand for luck, as in “the RNG hates me today.” In software, there are two flavors: pseudorandom, which is fast and fine for games, and cryptographic, which can’t be predicted and is what this tool uses.

Can I use it to flip a coin?

Yes. Set the min to 1 and the max to 2, leave “How many numbers” at 1 and hit “Generate.” Decide beforehand that 1 is heads and 2 is tails, and each side has exactly a 50% chance. Need best of three? Ask for 3 numbers and uncheck “No repeats.” If you’d rather watch it happen, the yes or no shortcut on our wheel does the same thing with a spin.
